Student Athlete Graduation Portraits

You don't have to be limited to standard poses and letter jackets when it comes to capturing student athlete's senior pictures! I take pride in getting to know your interests, passions, hobbies and after school activities so we can incorporate them into your graduation portrait sessions. Surprise, Arizona has plenty of locations and settings that I've been able to take advantage of over the years. With that being said, I wanted to share with you one of my recent graduate photoshoots that showcased my young client in his element!
Senior SessionsAbout Me

Graduation Portraits Start With Personality

To kick off this senior photo session, I wanted to capture some general shots to showcase his personality. There’s nothing flashy about these images but I wanted him to smile naturally and be himself. Forcing my clients into different poses during the beginning of the photoshoot can cause discomfort from the get go. Making sure he wasn’t nervous was key to getting some amazing shots that embodied who he was later on in the session.

Before we scheduled the shoot, I got to know some of his interests and passions. One of which was his truck. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the cab, but taking a few pictures of him in a natural setting improved his comfort levels. A lot of photographers provide standard options for senior pictures, but I love capturing different elements of my client’s lifestyle. It’s important that they’re able to look back and remember these moments in time. The things that define you in high school gradually change as life goes on.

Photographing Passion for Graduation

As a mother of 4, I know how hectic schedules can be. One of the reasons for this is our kids involvement in sports. As they get into high school, the commitment becomes more demanding. A lot of people don’t realize how much time and effort student athletes dedicate to practicing and developing their skill. Although sports aren’t the only passions students commit to, many of them won’t have the opportunity to pursue this passion after high school. Unlike other activities and hobbies, most athletes are forced to find passion elsewhere.

When capturing graduation portraits for athletes, I want to help them remember all of the time and effort they dedicated to the sports they love. So, I decided to start incorporating this into my senior photo sessions. As I photographed Noah in this session, I wanted to capture his competitive nature – but also focus on his funny personality. You’ll be able to tell the difference in the photos below. I hope you like them!

Don’t Graduate the Memories

Every high school student has different experiences, perspectives, interests and accomplishments. This is why I’m so passionate about communicating with my clients and parents prior to their sessions. High school is a short time compared to the rest of our lives, but it only happens once. It’s where our children have the most fun and grow as they prepare for the responsibilities of adulthood. Every high school senior has a unique story that can never be duplicated. Every student athlete will have memories of playing the sport they love – and I take pride in capturing them in their element one last time.

I look forward to helping you remember your graduation with creative and meaningful photography that’ll last a lifetime.
