Family Fun Things to do in Phoenix During Memorial Day Weekend.

First of all, I want to wish all of you a happy Memorial Day! From veterans, to volunteers and the men and women fighting overseas, we salute you! As we prepare our barbecue grills and coolers for another Memorial Day in Phoenix, let us not forget those risking their lives for our freedom every day. Sometimes, when I begin stressing about managing my photography business and a family of 6, I remember to appreciate the security and freedoms they provide us on a daily basis. One of our cherished freedoms should be our ability to decide on fun things to do in Phoenix AZ. Memorial day in the valley is one of the busiest of the year, so without further adieu, here are my top 5 activities for Memorial weekend in Phoenix. ServicesAbout Danielle

The Arizona Sunset Memorial Day Service

Highlighted by a moment of silence and a candlelight vigil, this should be one of the most touching events throughout the valley. Although other memorials are being held throughout the day, this one offers a moment of silence alongside the beautiful Arizona sunset on the west side of Phoenix. If you’re looking to be entertained poolside, then this event may not be for you – but if you’re looking for a surreal tribute on this day of honor, this could be the spot for you.

By partnering with Community Veteran Groups, the city of Avondale presents patriotic music as well as several speeches that should touch you and your family‘s hearts. Be apart of an American congregation during difficult times in the United States. Pay a tribute of your own by taking your day off and remembering those that have fallen and continue to fight for you.

The ceremony is free and only an hour long. It’s located at the City Hall Amphitheater. [ Google Map ]

The Sip, Soak, and Splash Memorial Day Package.

A great way to enjoy a stay cation in Phoenix is to pack the family into the minivan and drive to the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa in Chandler, Arizona.. This special has been going on all weekend but if you’re looking to extend yours, this will be a good way to approach it. Either way, it’s one of the best deals if your family was looking for fun things to do in Phoenix during Memorial Day.

Nights start at $139, but the room amenities aren’t the main attraction. The notorious “water lawn”  herds hundreds of people as the term “soak and splash” lives up to it’s name. Slip and slides, inflatable water slides, water tag, and other poolside parties keep the kids engaged while you’re able to enjoy music, concession stands, and refreshments. Hourly games like corn hole, jumbo Jenga, and bocce were offered through the weekend, but tonight gives you a chance to miss all of the madness and kick up your feet.

The focus of Memorial Day isn’t forgotten as festivities are also planned for this evening. If you’re seeking fun things to do in Phoenix that doesn’t require much planning – this is it. If you overlooked the weekend entirely, there’s still some time to take advantage of Chandler’s Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa this summer.

The Arizona Academy of the Art’s Memorial Day Picnic

This event begins at noon today at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Arizona. It costs $5 per person to attend but includes a free lunch of traditional American food and desert.

Not only will your kids meet and learn from the Academy family, but they’ll witness musical performances that may inspire them. For those looking to avoid large drunken crowds and loud music, enjoy the community and the arts by laying low this Memorial Day weekend. You’ll be able to kick off the summer months by staying indoors while learning about the Academy’s offerings.

Twilight Camp at the Phoenix Zoo

I always thought this was one of the more interesting family activities and fun things to do in Phoenix during Memorial weekend. Although it’s actually the day after Memorial Day, this is a great way to enjoy extended family time this weekend. Your kids will not only be able to enjoy animal encounters, but also a trail hike with their guide, zoo games and activities, a before-bed snack, and a camp souvenir to take home!

If you haven’t been to the Phoenix Zoo with your family you’re definitely missing out. Members receive a discount on the 26th while children under 5 are admitted for free, If you’re a young family with a newborn, this could be the perfect event to enjoy some time together while the baby is distracted.

It begins at 6:15 and lasts an hour and 45 minutes. You’ll need to make reservations as there is a limitation on the amount of people that can attend. If you’re in need of directions the Phoenix Zoo is located HERE.

Honoring our veterans with a poolside extravaganza has never been this easy and fun. Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix is pouring out an entire weekend of family fun with firework displays on Saturday and Sunday evening as well as an all-you-can-eat barbecue. Slap on the shades and sunscreen for this is one celebration to dive right in. The barbecue is served from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the picnic area and will include grilled chicken and hot dogs, green salad, western-style beans, corn-on-the-cob, sliced seasonal fruit and Coca-Cola beverages. The firework shows is free with park admission and begins at 9:30 p.m. www.wetnwildphoenix.com.

Wet N’ Wild’s Phoenix Memorial Weekend Fireworks & BBQ

This is by far one of the most fun things to do in Phoenix during Memorial weekend. One of the best, if not the best, water park in central Arizona, Wet N’ Wild provides families with endless amounts of entertainment. As the summer is sneaking up on us, it’s important to soak up as much tolerable sun as we can! If your purchase a seasonal pass, you receive a discount on the weekend’s festivities. Otherwise, you can choose a day to enjoy the water park’s amenities.

Last night showcased the All-You-Can-Eat BBQ and firework show, but the park remains open on Memorial Day. Although you may have missed out on these events, you can still take advantage of the amazing weather by heading out to Tempe for some fun in the sun. Some prefer to travel away from Phoenix on Memorial Day – but if you’re still here, why not make a short road trip to this watering hole of entertainment?

Don't Forget to Capture the Fun

As we enjoy Memorial Day in Phoenix together, don’t forget to capture all of the smiles, styles, and everything worthwhile! There is plenty for us to appreciate and we mustn’t forget those who take pride in the freedom we’re provided. If you attend any tributes or ceremonies, challenge yourself to take a second and capture the faces of those who have been immersed in battle for our great country. As many of us view this as a celebratory day, some mourn the losses of their loved ones. Let’s respect each other and enjoy ourselves through togetherness.
